God Strategies: Susanoo
When you play Masters of Myth™ and are looking through a new deck, you’re probably trying to figure out what cards are the strongest. It might not be immediately clear what powerful combos you can pull off until you get more familiar with the deck. This guide is designed to help players who are new to Susanoo or those looking for new strategies they can implement.
Grass Cutting Sword & 10-Fold Blade
Susanoo is unique amongst Masters of Myth™ decks, having multiple ways to consistantly increase his power or gain extra attacks. This gives Susanoo access to burst damage that can take your opponent off-guard. The 10-Fold Blade provides power or extra attacks, while the Grass Cutting Sword is pure power. These two relics give Susanoo incredible utility for threatening damage to enemy gods or removing minions. When used together, Susanoo can attack twice for 3 damage per attack, or a single 5 damage attack.

If Susanoo is still on his Heroic side, he can activate his God Feat to increase his power by 2. This makes his damage output even stronger, either attacking twice for 5 damage per attack, or a single 7 damage attack. This means if an opponent leaves themselves open, Susanoo can hit them for 10 damage. When using this combo to attack minions, it would be wise to use damage reduction. Hole In The Fence will make it so that you take less damage when attacking minions or gods with power.

Driven Out of Heaven
Sometimes opponents won’t allow themselves to be blitzed over a few turns, using control to create a late-game advantage. This is where sustainability becomes important. Driven Out of Heaven is a key sustain card in Susanoo’s deck. By discarding a card from his hand, Susanoo can summon a minion from his discard back into the fight. This means that in late-game scenarios, Susanoo will have access to at least one minion he needs to make a play.

A common sustain strategy is to summon a Western Kami using Driven Out of Heaven. The Western Kami can attack, and as long as it survives, Susanoo can use his Deathstate God Feat to sacrifice it to gain 4 Devotion. This effect can be increased to 6 Devotion if Fighting Spirit is on the field. Opponents have difficulty countering this strategy since 4-power minions are not as common as 3-power minions. Additionally, most Guard minions have 3 power unless they use some buff to make them more powerful (looking at you, Odin). Using Driven Out Of Heaven in the late game can give you critical tempo and sustain, giving you a path to victory.

Shimenawa
Minions die, and that can be a bummer, but what if they didn’t? Shimenawa allows Susanoo to bring back a friendly minion that was just destroyed. This has great synergy with Guard minions, since opponents need to invest resources into destroying a Guard minion just for it to come back to the field. Shimenawa is particularly nasty with Tsukuyomi and Amaterasu, as their destruction feat will trigger, allowing Susanoo to search his discard for the other sibling before he resummons the sibling that was destroyed.

Shimenawa can also be used in concert with Fighting Spirit and Susanoo’s Deathstate God Feat to gain Devotion while keeping a valuable minion on the field. If this combo is done with Western Kami, Susanoo will have a net gain of 3 Devotion and keep Western Kami on the field.

Flayed Horse
Lastly, allow me to explain how to use the “silly-ha-ha-horse” so that Susanoo can get the most out of it before the entire table turns on him. Summon Flayed Horse during your turn and then WAIT until the start of an opponent’s turn. During the start of their turn, activate the feat on Flayed Horse to force an opponent to gain control of it. Since it’s still the start of their turn, they have to destroy a relic other than Flayed Horse. Additionally, because Flayed Horse’s ability was already activated once this turn, no one can activate it again until the next turn. Truly a diabolical play that will surely result in no negative repercussions to the MANIAC that summoned it in the first place.

There are even more Susanoo combos out there just waiting to be discovered, but I’ll leave that job to you.
